Two decades of community fundraising resulted in more than $700,000 for local mental health services

Subway Brunet held its final golf tournament in support of the Canadian Mental Health Association Champlain East’s Mental Health Promotion Program in Prescott-Russell on July 7, 2023, at the Nation Golf Course in Curran, Ontario.

Total amount raised over the last 20 years is an outstanding $727,285.

CMHA Champlain East would like to thank all golf tournament sponsors and participants for helping to support community mental health and addictions services in our community. This funding has helped more than 73,000 people in the region.

“The funding provided by the Subway Brunet Golf Tournament has made an incredible and lasting impact in our community by supporting programs like suicide prevention training, anti-stigma education, wellness programs, student interventions and other mental health promotion services," said Joanne Ledoux-Moshonas, Executive Director, CMHA Champlain East. “We are incredibly grateful for your support. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”

Mark Brady, Board President, presented CMHA Champlain East’s 2023 Earl Eaton Honorary Distinction Award to Gisele Brunet following the final fundraiser. The award recognizes an individual for outstanding dedication in the field of mental health.

“This award recognizes Gisele for her excellent work in organizing the Subway Brunet Annual Golf Tournament for the past 20 years in support of CMHA’s Mental Health Promotion program,” Brady said. “Through her leadership and coordination with a very small volunteer committee, they were able to raise an outstanding amount of money so that people in this community can get the mental health services when and where they need them.”

The golf tournament may have come to an end, but the positive impact on the community and the legacy that the Brunets leave behind will be recognized for years to come.
